So how many people out there are going to be watching the Super Bowl today? Gathered with friends, family and loved ones to watch the game, eat and (one of my favorites) watch the commercials… It’s another one of those days every year with all the hoopla…oh and don’t get me wrong… I love it, but what If we had that much enthusiasm about God? In the bible, that is what they did…they came together to each others houses and ate, prayed, learned and they couldn’t wait until the next time they were together again!! We have lost our love of wanting to be with other Christians! I am one who particularly guilty of this one! I have struggled thru many trials over the past year and what a “true christian” is has changed in my mind. Now please don’t get me wrong, because I know there are many out there who have well intentions, but are those intentions good enough?
Matthew 19 Jesus is speaking to a wealthy young man who questioned what he needed to do to be saved…this was Jesus’s response…..
20 The young man said to Him, “All these things I have kept from my youth. What do I still lack?” 21 Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” 22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
There are many days when I think I am struggling because I am not sure how I am going to pay the bills “on time”, but there are days when there are others who despite how hard they try really have no way to buy groceries for their children for the week…I would gladly be late in my mortgage or car payment so that person could have a roof over their head and food in their fridge…. That is giving…and really I could give so much more!
So on this Super Bowl Sunday….think about your Christianity and enjoy your time with loved ones, but also focus what being a true Christian is….and give!!
