On the road with a new adventure

Well Mike and I are on the road…his new job with the military is with the yellow ribbon program. He works on and at military functions such as pre-deployment, during deployment and post-deployment seminars. This also allows me to travel with him. Destination this weekend….Pigeon Forge! For those of you not familiar with Pigeon Forge, Tn…it is just down the road from Gatlinburg and during the fall it is one of God’s most beautiful creations. I hope and pray these little adventures that I may be attending every once in a while will allow me to possibly touch someone’s life that may need it. Being a military spouse hands you experiences that no one involved in the military world can understand except for another military spouse. Lord use me in the way you want me to be used….and at the same time, let me learn from others….

Computer problems

Ok so why have become so dependent on computers and technology these days?? We have 2 laptops, a desktop and 2 iPhones in our house and something goes wrong with one of them all the time! Needless to say this is how I keep in touch with Mike when he is deployed and Trevor in Florida! Oh and not to mention watching Trevor’s games online! Funny thing is when we really need it to really work something doesn’t work and life comes to screeching halt! What would we do without the Internet? When having a phone in your house was a luxury….when your spouse or child went off to war or college you were lucky to get a letter once a month…

This generation (that of my children) has no clue what it is like without cell phones, computers or Internet… Basically it’s a now world…. We want everything now. Something that our children and I would even say my generation has forgotten is patience!

Although our computer hiccups for the morning are fixed and we are sitting here watching Trevor and the Stetson women’s basketball team play on our wide screen tv, which is hooked up to Mike’s laptop….take time to stop relax and just enjoy each other without any technology for a while…

My son has to be one of the most dedicated young men I know… Going to Stetson university in Deland, Fl so far from home here in Tennessee! He is the student assistant for the women’s basketball team, who I must say has a record of 16-3, tied 3rd in the nation for most wins!! He has been pushed, ran over, yelled at, blamed on and so much more but he continues to put every effort toward the dream he has always had….being a college basketball coach!! Here’s a picture of my man in action….

Life changes

“Like sands thru the hour glass…so are the days of our lives”…..

A very popular statement, but oh so very true….thinking about how many pieces of sand there are in hour glasses. Just think of a bucket of sand on the beach at the ocean…how many tiny grains there are. When the wind blows what does it do that sand, but spread and separate the grains from each other. Life’s wind can change at any point and time in our lives. Turn our lives toward a track in a totally different direction than we ever expected. How do we know we are doing God’s will for our lives? How do we know we are making the decisions that are God fulfilled decisions and not decisions that are selfish? In Ephesians Paul is writing to the church at Ephesus…Chapter 3:16-19 says;
16 “I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love. 18 may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge – that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. “

The grasp of how much God loves us is totally unfathomable….so by making the decisions we make his grace is sufficient to cover it all. To trust completely that we are following the will of God is to be totally at peace with the choice we have made. Our minds can not even begin to understand the knowledge of God…Prayer and prayer only can lead us in the directions we need to go, even if sometimes it is not the direction for which we would like to go…..

Music

Most of you that know me know that music has been a big part of my life… I grew up in the church of Christ and of course instrumental music was not allowed. I learned very early how to sing harmony, not to mention the talent passed down to me by my father, to be able to hear and sing the harmonies. I took 6 years of piano when I was younger and basically taught myself how to read music (for the voice), I already could read music for the piano. Started singing alto in church when I was younger, then joined chorus in middle school. Sang in the Chorus all through high school, was lead soprano in chorus, was voted most talented in high school plus I majored in music when I started college in the fall of 1988. During this time and even before took voice lessons and more piano lessons, but for some reason it just wasn’t my time to finish school. The love of music runs thru my soul. When I hear a song I can relate to I can feel it to the inner most core of my being. My dad has been a huge part of that love of music…. So many times he has called me to sing at funerals for church when he needed an alto or soprano part. To stand next to my dad at church and sing alto while he was singing the tenor part …..and then jokingly we would switch….he would sing alto (yes he has a very high range) and me sing the tenor part (obviously another inheritance)…these times are priceless. When my grandfather passed away a few years ago, we came up with this awesome idea to do the singing ourselves. Some of the songs were duets, but some we did all 4 parts….he would sing tenor while I sang the lead…..we would then play those parts and record the other two (him singing bass and me singing alto)….we also did the same for my grandmother’s funeral.

Now as my dad is suffering with Melanoma, which has moved into his lymph nodes, I have realized that the days on this earth with my father are numbered. These recordings that we have are totally priceless to me. I hope I can figure out how to get a song on here so that maybe I can share it with you….

The music in my life was handed down from one of the most kindest, loving, and humble men I have ever known….I love you daddy and I always will….

Slacking on a Saturday….

What a lazy day….I have stayed in bed most of the day …lazy depressed and lonely…..Are there ever times when you have so much emotion inside of you that you don’t know how to express it….it was a beautiful day today but I didn’t get to go out and enjoy it….had no energy …
Working a full time has exhausted me…..Some times I don’t know how I get thru each day…but I do and by the grace of God…I don’t go insane….

One thing after another

Finally got Trevor well and back to school…I have been back to work a little over a full week and my car gets broken into. Yep, my driver’s side front window busted out, GPS stolen and get this….my makeup bag!! Who would have stole my makeup bag? Bahahahaaha! Just seems there is one thing after another after another…but I refuse to be broken down….

Trevor’s hospital visit

For those of you that haven’t seen on my Facebook account…my son who just started college in Florida in August suddenly came down with double pneumonia this week. He has been in the hospital since Tuesday night and today is now Saturday…My boy has been pretty sick….The athletic trainer at Stetson took him to the ER on Monday, but they just gave him a shot and a Z Pack and sent him home. Well, needless to say by the next night he was calling me almost in tears because he felt so bad and could not breathe. Between his dad and I we talked him into letting his roommate take him back to the ER. Needless to say, they did X Rays this time and waalaa….pneumonia in both lungs…it has been a long slow process with his healing. I of course, was on the first flight to Florida I could get on Wednesday morning. For 3 days he had been on pain medicine, because of the chest pain, and 2 kinds of antibiotics, one of them being Vancomyacin, the big dog of all antibiotics… They have constantly had to monitor his blood levels with this antibiotic. Yesterday afternoon the Dr was still very concerned with Trevor’s lungs, because he had formed what is called post pneumonic effusion. Basically, the fluids in his lungs were solidifying instead of evaporating. Because of this he called in a Pulmonologist and ordered a CT Scan and more x-rays…. Good news today, the pulmonologist said he still had pneumonia in his lungs, but he did not see any permanent damage to the lungs. It will take at least another 2 weeks before his lungs will be back to normal. As far as going home from the hospital that will be up to the regular Dr….When he is released the Dr did tell us he did not want him going back to class or the dorm for at least another 3-4 days…So we have had to make arrangements for him to have a room to his self for a while…and that is where we are at right now…Most likely the Dr will come in this afternoon and let us know when he will be able to leave, but I don’t think it will be today….
